Grow a T-shirt? An evergreen T-shirt? You may be wondering what on earth we mean by that. Does it stay on your back all year round? Well, if you\u2019re anything like my teen, it could well be the case, but actually this is all about sustainability.<\/h2>

Here at Ruffle Snuffle, in partnership with Teemill<\/a>, we are committed to providing high quality 100% organic cotton T-shirts<\/a> and hoodies<\/a> that are effectively immortal. Old garments are recycled into new ones, which means there\u2019s never anything going to landfill.\u00a0<\/h3>

The story of seed to shop is one that huppens and Teemill are particularly proud of. Everything we do, from farming to distribution has been environmentally optimised to cause minimal damage to the planet to be 100% organic and vegan friendly and to meet social and environmental accountability standards.<\/p>

\"\"Farming<\/h2>

Our organic cotton uses environmentally friendly methods such as insect traps and cow dung to keep pests under control and manage water usage. The farms are located in an area in Northern India which have monsoons which supply the water used to grow the cotton. This means that the cotton crops are GOTS<\/a><\/u> certified organic, which demands that companies meet high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.<\/p>

\"\"Primary processing<\/h2>

Once harvested, the petals and seeds must be removed before the cotton can be processed. The useful fibres are sent to be spun and the waste seeds are pressed into cakes which is sold for organic cow feed. The plant even yields vegetable oil, so there is no waste in the process. The price of cotton is guaranteed by the regional Government, so farmers can make a reliable income.<\/p>

\"\"Secondary processing and manufacturing<\/h2>

Recently several sweatshops in Leicester at the centre of a COV19 outbreak came under fire for continuing to break several employment and health & safety laws. Unlike fast-fashion companies who are still using UK based factories, our garments are \u201cnot made in a sweatshop<\/a><\/u>\u201d. Spinning, dyeing and garment making is all housed together in a well-lit, ventilated, clean and hygienic factory. Wastewater from the dyeing process is cleaned and filtered, producing a paste that\u2019s used for road markings and clean water, pure enough to drink. The water is then reused for the next batch, meaning there is no waste.<\/p>

We use technology in the factories to help manage all the machinery for optimum energy efficiency, so nothing is wasted.<\/p>

A just-in-time approach is used for garment printing. Using environmentally friendly inks, as well as automation software and technology, we can manufacture and print on an order-first basis. This means we do not have excess stock that could end up in landfill and it reduces storage costs.\u00a0<\/p>

These efficiencies mean that the higher costs of materials are offset by lower manufacturing and printing costs, enabling the company to be profitable and give back to the community in the form of training programmes and increased employment for young people locally to the printing plant.<\/p>

\"\"Packaging<\/h2>

Every stage in the supply chain process has been designed with ethical and sustainable practices in mind. This also applies to packaging and distribution. Orders are packaged in paper, rather than plastic, so we are not contributing to the growing issue of waste plastic clogging up our rivers and oceans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

All our products can be returned to the factory where they will be recycled again and again into new garments.
